Your Wheels in Expert Hands

offer wheelbuilding services using customer-supplied hubs. To make your dream build a
reality, simply arrange the shipment of your hubs to our facility, and we will dedicate our
expertise entirely to the precision wheelbuilding process. While customers are responsible
for the shipping of their hubs, we ensure our wheelbuilding fees remain competitive and

The Art of Wheel Building
Step 1: Calculate Spoke Lengths
Rim ERD's and hubs are measured to ensure precise spoke lengths are calculated for every
wheel build. A flawless wheel build is born from mathematical precision. We don’t rely on
guesswork; instead, we take exact, individual measurements of your hub profiles and rim
ERDs. This allows us to calculate the perfect, bespoke spoke length for your specific build,
laying the foundation for a wheel that is perfectly balanced, exceptionally durable, and
uniquely yours.
Step 2: Cut Spokes to Size
Every spoke is measured, then cut and threaded to the exact length required for the build.
To achieve our tension uniformity, we reject standard, pre-cut spokes. Instead, every spoke
is individually analyzed, precision-cut, and threaded to the exact millimeter demanded by
your custom hub and rim profile.
Step 3: Component Inspection
Once parts are ready, every detail is closely inspected to ensure they are ready to build.
Our master builders inspect every facet—matching hub geometry, rim finishes, and nipple
specifications against our build matrix. We don't just prepare parts; we qualify them for a
masterpiece.
Step 4: Spoke Lacing
Each wheel is laced by hand. The lacing pattern depends on the type of rim, hub, and spokes,
the hole count, rider power, and other dynamic requirements. Maintaining proper spoke
tension is crucial for wheel performance and longevity. Evenly tensioned spokes ensure the
wheel remains true and can handle the stresses of riding. Our spoke tension standard is
110-130 kgf, which varies with different lacing patterns.
Step 5: Wheel Truing
We’ll adjust the tension of the spokes to deliver a perfectly straight and true wheel. To
ensure that every wheelset meets top-tier performance standards, we conduct rigorous
geometric accuracy inspections. Using high-precision dial gauges on a professional truing
stand, we systematically measure and control the rim’s tolerances within exceptionally
strict limits: The lateral and radial runout is ≤ 0.2mm.
Step 6: Stress Relieving
Stress relieving prevents premature spoke failure and fatigue by allowing materials to adapt
to tension and simulated riding forces during the assembly. At Light Bicycle, each wheel
undergoes a 16-cycle stress-relief process with 150–160 kgf of force applied to ensure
maximum stability and longevity.
Wheel Building Documentation
No custom wheelset is the same: there are endless variations of wheel components, spoke
lacing patterns, and other customizations. All to suit the customer's needs. It is hard to
keep track of what a particular wheelset was made from. What hubs did you use? What was the
correct spoke length? What was the ERD of this particular rim? These are all viable
questions. That is why we provide wheel-building documentation to customers for regular
maintenance and reference.
